As I’m writing this, it seems that this election is going the way I wanted to see it go. For Obama. I had the day off from work today so I was able to go out and vote without any time restraints. Pathetically, I ended up at the wrong polling location today, as it turns out, the right one was only a mile down the road from where I was. I didn’t have to wait in line at either place but I was confronted at both places by over zealous anti-abortion people insisting that I vote no on Proposal 2. I voted yes, not necessarily to spite them but because science is the only hope Michigan has left. This proposal will help fuel the life science industry that is fast replacing all the manufacturing jobs that have left the state. Why toss a good embryo in the trash when it can be used for scientific research? It was a no-brainer and by the looks of the numbers tonight, the rest of the state agreed with me. Interestingly, proposal 1 is also expected to pass by a huge margin. This one allows medicinal use of Marijuana. Obvious restrictions will exist and I’m sure Michigan will face the same interference by the Feds as other states have but it’s a step in the right direction. My personal history aside, there is very little reason for marijuana to be illegal in the first place. Regulate it like alcohol, tax it, and ka-bam, you’ve got a cash cow for the state. I won’t see that in my life time however. This country has far too big a problem with substance abuse to go down that road. We can’t even handle alcohol responsibly.
Don’t have much else to write about tonight. I expect I’ll keep my eyes on the TV to watch the election results come in for the next few hours and then head off to bed. Gavin on the other hand has been snoring loudly on the couch most of the night. He thinks this election shit is quite boring.
